What is a Doula?
A Doula is a support person, someone who is present before, during and after the birth of a baby. She is a non medical person, who helps support the woman and her partner with evidence based information so they can make the best decision for their family. She also provides physical and emotional support throughout the pregnancy, labor, delivery and postpartum period.
Why do women hire doulas?
Women hire doulas to have someone else on their birthing team who is unbiased, and has experience with pregnancy and birth. Someone who can support their birth plan, and be there to lean on in addition to their partner or spouse.
Are doulas for unmedicated births only?
No. I've been to births where the mom planned for an epidural. I've supported single moms who needed a birth partner, and I've been there for moms who planned to have an unmedicated birth but changed their minds. I support ALL types of births. It is YOUR birthing time, so it's your choice how you birth your baby.
